The rejuvenation of UMNO needs second liners who are courageous, calm, open and are willing to learn the ins and outs of politics.

Pahang UMNO delegate Mohd Shahrir@Shaharir Abdullah said second liners should have these characteristics as they will face an increasingly challenging political environment.

"The younger generation have not gone through the difficulties of political struggles. They need to be guided through their ongoing learning process.

"Don't be too quick to talk, don't be a coward. There is an art to politics that must be learnt from time to time," he said when debating a motion on the president's policy speech at the UMNO General Assembly 2014 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Friday.

He said the party's rejuvenation agenda is not about replacing existing leaders, but instead to restore the dignity and ensure the survival of the party.

"The youths need to show spirit. We want to see second liners who are dynamic, charismatic and vocal when working together with veterans," he added.
