The daughter of the Sultan of Johor, Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim will marry Dennis Muhammad Abdullah on Aug 14.

Johor Council of the Royal Court president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli said the royal wedding would be conducted according to Malay customs and traditions of the Johor Palace.

“The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah have consented and blessed the marriage of Tunku Tun Aminah with Dennis Muhammad Abdullah,” he said when announcing the wedding to reporters here today.

Abdul Rahim said the state ceremonial flag will be flown on Aug 8 to mark the start of the royal wedding ceremony.

The tahlil and thanksgiving prayers will be held at 6.30pm on Aug 10 at the Masjid Pasir Pelangi, here to ask for Allah’s blessings for the marriage, he said.

“The engagement ceremony will be held at 10am on Aug 14 at Istana Bukit Serene here, followed by the solemnisation ceremony which will be done by Johor Mufti Datuk Muhammad Tahrir Shamsudin representing Sultan Ibrahim as the bride’s wali (guardian).

“The “bersanding” (sitting on the wedding dais) ceremony will be held at the Throne Room of Istana Besar at 8pm on the same day (Aug 14),” he said, adding that it would be a private affair.

Abdul Rahim also said the royal bathing ceremony will be held the following day (Aug 15) at the Bukit Bintang Bandstand in the Royal Botanical Gardens of the Istana Besar and the newly-weds will pay their respects to Johor’s late sultans at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum on Aug 16.

He said Tunku Tun Aminah, the only princess of the Sultan’s six children, was born on April 8, 1986 at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here and given the name Tunku Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah by the late Sultan Iskandar.

He added that Tunku Tun Aminah received her early education at the Hilltop Kindergarten, Sekolah Convent and Sekolah Seri Utama here before enrolling in the Australia International School in Singapore for her secondary school education and then on to the La Salle School of Fashion and Design, also in Singapore.

On Dennis Muhammad whose original name is Dennis Verbaas, Abdul Rahim said he was born on May 1, 1989 in Lisse, a town near Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The second of three children of Martin and Henriette Varbaas, he studied at Floretti College Hillego, The Netherlands and pursued vocational education in mechanical engineering at ROC Leiden, The Netherlands.

A football fan, he was employed as manager of the JDT Concept Store and Cafe, and later as marketing manager of the Tampines Rovers Football Club, Singapore. He converted to Islam on May 31, 2015.
