Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas has been reappointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang for the seventh term.

Abdul Rahman, 79, received his instrument of appointment for the new four-year term from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at a special ceremony at Istana Negara here today.

Present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Dewan Negara president Datuk Seri S. A. Vigneswaran and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Born on April 15, 1938 in Kampung Permatang Rambai, Kepala Batas, Penang , Abdul Rahman was first appointed as Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri in 2001.

He was reappointed to the post in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Abdul Rahman graduated with honours in Literature from Universiti Malaya (UM) in 1972 and also served acting chief minister of Penang for three years from 1982.
