A couple and their son was brutally murdered in Kampung Bertam, Malim Melaka, this morning.

Melaka Police chief Datuk Ramli Din said the husband and wife were aged 62 and 70 while their son was 22 years old.

"We have classified this case as murder where three people were brutally murdered," he said.

"Police received the information at about 7am today and had rushed to the scene where we found the three people murdered," he said.

He said three women aged between 24 and 80 were also injured in the 6am incident.

"They have been brought to the hospital. Two of them sustained injuries," he said, while adding, a relative is believed to have carried out the murders.

Ramli said two of the victims were found dead in separate rooms while the other was found in the living room.

He said the suspect, believed to have been under the influence of drugs, was detained by the police at about 11am today.

He said the suspect was hiding inside a the Bukit Rambai mosque compound, about 10 kilometres from the place where the murders took place.

Police are still investigating the motive of the murders.
