A Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia student died after falling while climbing Bukit Tabur in Taman Melawati on Tuesday.

A search and rescue team found Soleha Abd Rahman unconscious at about 12.30pm. She was then airlifted by a helicopter from the Air Unit of the Fire and Rescue Department to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Soleha, 25, an economic student at the university, died at about 4pm at the hospital.

She and seven others were said to have started the climb at about 8am when she slipped and fell while they were ascending to check point 11 at a height of about 470 metres above sea level.

Ampang district police chief ACP Khairuldin Saad said the woman died on arrival at the hospital.

Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Superintendent Juyana@ Azlan Musa said the search and rescue team took about half an hour to bring out the victim from the location where she was found unconscious.

"She was found at a steep cliff," he added.

He said the search and rescue team comprised fire and rescue personnel, the police and the Civil Defence Department.

Soleha's sister, Fadilah Ab Rahman, 38, when met at the hospital, said Soleha's body would be brought back to Kampung Padang Machang, Manir in Kuala Terengganu for burial.
