Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Anipah has called on the people to cease spreading slanderous statements on an alleged bribery paid to several UMNO leaders to topple former MB, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir to ensure public orders in state.

According to Ahmad Bashah, a police report has been lodged by the individual who is believed to issue the statement about the bribery for the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation on the matter.

He also stressed that bribery is not a culture practiced in UMNO to clinch the support of grassroots leaders.

Ahmad Bashah told reporters when prodded on allegations -- which had gone viral -- against several UMNO leaders including a party divisional chief and a party wing head -- who received bribe in return to defy Mukhriz's leadership.

“I urge the youth who will become state and country leaders in the future to cease spreading lies immediately as it can damage everything,” he said.

“The political turmoil in Kedah has just ended and a new Menteri Besar appointed. What’s important is for us to surge forward to fulfil UMNO’s pledge during the last General Election,” said Ahmad Bashah.

Ahmad Bashah, who is also Kedah UMNO Liaison Committee deputy chairman said he will meet all State officers to seek updates on the present development and programmes in the State.

“I want to listen to all their explanations in order for me to study and make my decisions. Just as the race circuit for the youth in Kedah, I will discuss with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to expedite its development," he added.

Ahmad Bashah today begun his first full day as Kedah MB at Wisma Darul Aman, here after a dramatic political tussle that ended the divisive reign of the once-embattled Mukhriz.
