The National Security Council (MKN) has urged the public to cease spreading rumours in the social media on the floods occurring in Terengganu currently.

MKN secretary Datuk Tajudeen Ab Wahab said such actions would only create panic among the flood victims and bring difficulties to numerous quarters.

He said MKN would not compromise with individuals who carried out such irresponsible actions and was tracking down those who were still spreading invalid information.

"We are tracking down the first individual who disseminated a story on social sites that the water from the dam would be released and so on ... the action caused panic and brought difficulties to village residents.

"Today, another story was spread saying Terengganu will be thrown into darkness because Tenaga Nasional Berhad is cutting power supply," he told reporters here, Thursday.

He explained that MKN did not treat such matters lightly and had lodged a police report on the dissemination of false information, and appropriate action was forthcoming.

"Just imagine, when a senior citizen finds out about such incidents, he will panic and strive to save himself. A myriad of incidents can befall him in his state of panic," he said.

Meanwhile, he said MKN had made detailed preparation to face the disaster afflicting the state with the cooperation of several agencies.
