Six prostitution kingpins have been detained under the Prevention of Crime Act this year, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.

He said they were among 247 people who were detained for various other offences under the law this year.

"The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will continue to step up efforts to eliminate prostitution. Thank you to all those who have cooperated with PDRM, providing information towards this effort," he said in his latest Facebook posting.

A total of 351 people were detained under the act last year, he said, adding that 18 of them were prostitution kingpins.

He also congratulated the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism Special Task Force (STAGG) for the arrest of 25 guest relation officers (GRO) of foreign nationalities in raids at entertainment outlets in Johor and Pahang yesterday.
