The single mother who suffered 85 per cent burns when torched by her former boyfriend died yesterday after being in critical condition for 12 days.

Saliza Saidin, 29, was buried at the Kampung Batu Muda Muslim cemetery in Batu caves here today.

Her sister, Suryana Saidin, 34, when contacted by Bernama, said Saliza died at 5.15pm at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

She said Saliza's youngest daughter, aged one year and five months, who suffered burns on the face and hands, was recuperating and had yet to be discharged from the hospital.

"We have discussed that the girl and her two other siblings will be cared for by my eldest sister in Nilai, Seremban, to provide them with a new environment," she added.

In the Jan 21 incident, Saliza's former boyfriend, Mohd Hafizi Abdul Rahman, was said to have gone to her house at Perumahan Awam Desa Rejang, Setapak Jaya, during which an argument broke out between them.

The man then left the house, but returned a few minutes latter and went into the woman's room where he poured petrol and then lit it.

He was arrested the following day in Hutan Melintang, Perak.

Last Tuesday, Mohd Hafizi, a mechanic, was charged in the Sessions Court here with attempting to kill the woman and her three children.
