Malays and the Bumiputera in the country have the responsibility to live in harmony with the other races and respect the rights of the non-Malays as stipulated in the Federal Constitution.

This is the mandate from UMNO Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who said the wing will never compromise with anyone who questions Islam as the official religion, the special rights and privileges of the Rulers, Malays and the Sabah and Sarawak Bumiputera as well as the Malay language.

“I hope no one will question the citizenship of the Chinese and Indians who were born here,” she said in her policy speech at the Wanita wing’s annual general assembly.

“If we do not want them to question our special privileges and rights, then we also have to respect them as citizens of the country,” she added.

Shahrizat said there were certain elements with political agendas trying to disrupt the harmony between the races.
