The Selangor government is mulling over the proposal to build six more expressways as a measure to increase transportation network efficiency and reduce traffic congestion in the state.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said although the state government had, on principle, agreed with the Malaysian Highway Authority's (LLM) proposal, several terms and conditions should be met before the project could be implemented.

"So far, 23 expressways had been built while six others are still in LLM's plan and we have been informed that the routes of these expressways will be inter-connected in an integrated network.

"However, the proposal must meet the requirements as stipulated in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report, Traffic Assessment Report and Social Impact Assessment Report before it can proceed," he told reporters here Wednesday.

The six proposed expressways are Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE), Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (SKIP), Eastern Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE), Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH), West Coast Expressway (LBP) and Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX).

Abdul Khalid said the people of Selangor should look at the proposal in a holistic way for their own convenience in the future.

He said the Selangor State Executive Council had been instructed to cooperate with the LLM to study the effectiveness of the existing expressways, including from the aspect of traffic dispersal and the impact on local development and public transportation.
