Seven hotspots have been identified in Selangor believed to be the contributing factor to the haze around Klang Valley.

Several forest fires were identified with one of the area badly affected being Sungai Tinggi, Hulu Selangor with a fire area of 380 hectares.

According to a report released by the Selangor Environmental Department, fires were also detected at Kilometres 21.5 of the Kesas Highway with an area covering two hectares.

Other areas include Sungai Besar and Kilometre 24.8 of the Kesas Highway heading towards Pulau Kempas and Kuala Langat.

Until 6pm on Thursday, the Selangor Fire department were working hard in putting out fires caused by open burning.

Port Klang, Selangor recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) of 325 which puts it in a ‘very unhealthy’ level.

Meanwhile, the Selangor state Environmental exco, Elizabeth Wong informed that the state government would be distributing 180,000 masks to the people in Selangor beginning Friday.

She added that the Selangor Environmental Department had opened 12 investigation papers into private land owners who do open burnings.
