The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) central leadership inaugural meeting on Tuesday night saw the party still awaiting the Selangor palace to accept its nomination of PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the Menteri Besar candidate.

If rejected, it will nominate its deputy president, Mohamed Azmin Ali, as the alternative candidate.

According to a party source, PKR will call another special central leadership meeting upon receiving its response from the palace, including the possibility of naming Mohamed Azmin as its alternative MB candidate.

“If it (the initial nomination) is rejected, Azmin’s name will be submitted. This will be confirmed after the meeting is held.

“Once the palace gives an answer, Azmin’s name as an alternative MB candidate will be ‘submitted’,” the source told Astro AWANI today.

However, in a statement today, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in yesterday's meeting, Mohamed Azmin himself had reiterated his support for Wan Azizah as the sole MB candidate.

"The Central Leadership Council reaffirms its decision made on July 21, 2014 to nominate Wan Azizah as the new Selangor MB," said Saifuddin.

The PR women’s wings had also previously expressed their unconditional support for Wan Azizah, who is also Kajang assemblyman, to be the next Selangor MB.

Meanwhile, in his statement today, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, will provide his feedback on all of the proposed names for the MB post.

Each of the PR parties - PKR, PAS and DAP - have all submitted the names of nominees to the Selangor Sultan.
