The new deputy speaker of the Selangor legislative assembly will be appointed at the next sitting of the Selangor State Assembly on Nov 24, said Selangor Assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh.

The nomination process had started as all state assemblymen had received the letter to nominate the new deputy speaker, she told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia at Parliament House Wednesday.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali had announced that the post of deputy speaker would be filled by a PAS assemblyman as the previous deputy speaker, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, has been appointed a state executive councillor.

Yeoh also said Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin and Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib, who had been suspended from PAS, would remain as PAS assemblymen at the next sitting as she had not received any official letter from PAS.

"As far as we are concerned, I have no official letter from PAS and they remain as PAS assemblymen in the house. No change," she said.

Hasnul and Saari were suspended from PAS for having expressed their support for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the candidate for Selangor menteri besar during the recent crisis, contrary to their party's decision.
