The Sarawak state election campaign which started on Monday after nomination for candidates closed at 10am, has progressed smoothly without any untoward incidents said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Khalid said most of the police reports lodged was for damaging posters and police have opened investigations on 23 of the 32 reports received since Monday.

"Apart from damaging posters, one case involved a car break-in and another involving a fight," he told reporters after meeting senior police officers at Dewan Pahlawan Briged Sarawak Pasukan Gerakan Am, in Batu Kawah, near here today.

He said 10 cases would be referred to the Election Commission for action.

Speaking of 20 areas that have been identified as hotspots, Khalid said the situation at the hotspots was under control due to close monitoring from the police.

"The presence of police in the areas has averted any untoward incidents," he said.
