Sarawak DAP chief, Chong Chieng Jen's action in denouncing the playing of NegaraKu in cinemas during Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations has received angry reactions from users on social networking sites.

On his Facebook page, Chong wrote, "Since when has this playing of the national anthem in cinemas started?

"Is Malaysia heading towards the communist Mao era where everywhere you go, you must shout out loud and show that you are a patriot?

Chong's comments were also shared in the Facebook page of Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek tonight and received hundreds of angry comments from social site users.

The comments include, "During general election, you were desperate to become a Malaysian member of parliament.

"But the comments you made today do not show that you are a Malaysian citizen," said a Amirul Azmi Anuar.

Another angry user Andry Augustine commented, "Are u a Malaysian, Sir ???? Even foreigners stand when they hear our national anthem."

A Syahirah Rosli said "sorry, you are not qualified to earn my respect even though you are a politician."

The users questioned Chong's motive and purpose of uploading the comments and demanded that he be severely punished.
