The ringgit continued to trend higher at opening today in riding on the bullish oil price sentiment, dealers said.

At 9 am, the ringgit was quoted at 4.2100/2180 against the greenback from 4.2140/2190 on Wednesday.

A dealer said investor focus shifted towards the growing tension in the Mediterranean, after a Russian jet was downed by Turkey near the Syrian border, adding further pressure on the production and shipment of crude oil.

The local unit was also mostly higher against other major currencies.

It appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.9924/9991 from yesterday's 3.0019/0061 and strengthened against the yen to 3.4334/4407 from 3.4422/4477 previously.

It fell against the British pound to 6.3655/3797 from 6.3547/3644 on Wednesday, but improved against the euro to 4.4706/4795 from 4.4925/4987 previously.
