Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) strategy director Mohd Rafizi Ramli pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of insulting with intent to provoke Umno members through a statement in an article last February.

Mohd Rafizi, 37, who is Pandan member of Parliament, is charged with intentionally insulting to provoke the Umno members through a statement in an article, with the title 'Will Rafizi quit if Selangor is not toppled' which could break public peace.

The offence was allegedly committed at the office of The Edge Malaysia Communication Sdn Bhd, Menara KLK, Jalan PJU 7/6, Mutiara Damansara, at 11.40am on Feb 4, 2014.

The charge, under Section 504 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for two years or fine or both, if found guilty.

Judge Abu Bakar Manat allowed Mohd Rafizi bail of RM2,000 with one surety and set Sept 30 for mention.

Prosecution was conducted by Head of Selangor Prosecution Unit chief Mohd Azari Harun, while lawyers N.Surendran and Eric Paulsen represented Mohd Rafizi.
