PandanMP Rafizi Ramli said Ambank should state whether or not an account under the name ofDato' Seri Najib Tun Razak existed in the bank following reports that 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds were channeled into that account.

He said this will give the actual picture to the people whether or not Najib was involved in the channeling the people's money into his personal account as claimed by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Sarawak Report.

He said Najib should also allow Ambank or any of banks in the country to reveal the bank accounts that he has opened since becoming the Prime Minister in 2009.

"If it is proven that the Ambank account as claimed by WSJ does not exist, Najib can easily end this issue," he said in a press statement.

He also called on Bank Negara Malaysia to use the power accorded under the Financial Services Act to confirm if such an account existed.

However, Rafizi said, if it was proven that such account existed, Najib should go on leave and let an acting prime minister to take over the administration until investigations are concluded.

On Friday, WSJ and Sarawak Report publishedreports of 1MDB funds being transferred to Najib's personal Ambank account.

WSJreported that the document had traced nearly US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) was transferred to a government agency and later creditedintothe Prime Minister’s personal accounts in separate deposits.

Sarawak Report meanwhile in its report claimed that RM42 million had been transferred into Najib’s accounts from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a company owned by the Finance Ministry.
