The 11-point scoring system proposed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) will give a distinct advantage to experienced players said world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei.

Chong Wei said senior players like himself and his arch rival Lin Dan had the ability to control a match and can use the system to their advantage.

"The 11-point game is short...good for senior players, maybe suitable for me and Lin Dan because we have the experience to dictate the pace and control the game," he said when commenting on BWF's proposal.

Chong Wei was speaking to reporters at an incentive presentation ceremony for Rio Olympics medal winners by 100 Plus.

Players who received incentives from 100 Plus for winning silver medals at the Rio Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil were Chong Wei, mixed doubles pair Chang Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying and men's doubles pair Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong.

BWF had recently urged its affiliates to try out the 11-point system instead of the current 21-point system which was introduced 10 years ago.

Under the new system proposed by BWF, there are two options if players are tied at 10-10, first the winner will have to win by two clear points or the winner will be decided upon reaching 15 points.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had tested the system at the International Junior Under-19 tournament held in Terengganu last week.

A decision on whether the system would be adopted for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, would be made during BWF's congress in May.
