Police are expected to record a statement from the maid of the late Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament, Karpal Singh in a week, as her condition was still not stable.

Kampar District Police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said the Indonesian national, Selfiana Rengga, 24, who suffered a serious brain injury was now conscious but her memory was not consistent.

"The doctors had operated on her to remove glasses from her eyes yesterday. Her memory is currently inconsistent, sometimes she remembers, sometimes she doesn't," he said when met by reporters after attending the closing of the Perak Royal Malaysian Police Contingent's Innovative and Creative Group Convention here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, he said the result of the Chemistry Department test on the urine sample of the lorry driver involved in the accident would be known in a month.

"The Chemistry Department is conducting tests on the lorry driver's urine before the result is submitted to the court," he said.

Karpal Singh, 74, who was also DAP's former chairman, and his personal assistant Michael Cornelius, 39, were killed in an accident at Km306.1 of the North South Expressway near Gua Tempurong in Kampar, at 1.10am on Thursday, when his Toyota Alphard (MPV) crashed into a lorry.

The closing of the convention was officiated by Perak police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

Acryl Sani also handed prizes to the winners of the management category which was won by the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters while the Tanjung Malim District Police Headquarters was the winner in the technical category.
