"Be proactive and follow your dream," was the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to generation Y Malaysians in the pursuit of their goal.

He said the nation needed generation Y to be excellent and successful people to maintain the continuity the nation's success.

"If we have ambitions to learn the English language, open up a business or study religion, do not allow any obstacle to disappoint us.

"We must try to fulfil our dreams and aspirations," he said when speaking at the Genexter 2014 Carnival which was attended by 30,000 youths at Dataran Putrajaya, here today.

The two-day Genexter Carnival, which began yesterday, was organised by the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti).

Also present were the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor who is also Bakti president, and Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, the vice president of Bakti.

Others present were cabinet ministers and their wives, the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and state leaders.

Unlike other events, no VIP seats were provided and leaders were seen blending themselves in a sea of youths including Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir.

Najib said as the nation's top leader, he was responsible for ensuring maintaining peace and harmony among the multiracial and multireligious people of Malaysia.

"In this regard, I do not want problems among ourselves. And we do not want our generation Y today to have misunderstandings over religion to the extent, some are willing to become suicide bombers.

"In actual fact, we only need to strive for excellence as citizens," Najib added.
