The prime minister has proof that Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had alleged that 40,000 Bangladeshis were brought in to vote at the 13th General Election.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had received recordings, information and materials on Anwar's speeches, including those from the cyber media.

"Now, they are up against the wall, they are claiming it was raised by other parties whilst it was the issue they harped on during their roadshows in every state, including during the general election campaign," he told reporters after visiting the Perak police contingent headquarters here Monday.

He said what was claimed by the opposition leader was a big lie and when it became known to society, the opposition tried to divert the people's attention.

Ahmad Zahid said, what was claimed by Anwar had embarrassed the Election Commission (EC) due to wide coverage by the international media.

The opposition leader had claimed that the Barisan Nasional was forced to import Bangladesh nationals to win in the last general election.

On the adjournment speech of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang at the 59th PAS General Assembly on Sunday, that the party was prepared to discuss with Umno in efforts to implement an administration based on Islam in the country, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, said it was a move that had been chanted for so long.

"What was broached by (Abdul) Hadi is something that had been suggested for so long but yet to be implemented. It is a good move and should be seen with a sincere spirit and soul, not merely a political offer only to Umno," he said.

Abdul Zahid said it should also appropriately, be an offer to the ulama group, Islamic intellectuals and Muslim non-governmental bodies, without sidelining other religions which should also be respected.

"I hope this discussion will not be delayed...and I think we must be open in receiving the suggestion of the PAS president."

On his working visit to the Perak contingent police headquarters, Ahmad Zahid said it was normal for him to be aware of its overall operations.
