Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) decided to maintain its stand in only naming its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the candidate for the Selangor Menteri Besar post.

PKR vice-president, Rafizi Ramli, in a statement Friday, said it was unanimously decided by party leaders and was also agreed by the Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council.

He was commenting on the nomination of PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad as the new Menteri Besar of Selangor in which Nik Nazmi declined.

According to Rafizi, the withdrawal of Nik Nazmi was seen as an open support of Dr Wan Azizah's candidacy and Nik had even called on any other individuals who harbour the hope of being the candidate to respect the consensus agreed upon.

The Pandan MP also called on PKR state assemblymen to turn down nominations as Menteri Besar by any groups as a show of support for the party's president.

On Thursday, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision in naming his wife, Wan Azizah as the sole candidate for the Menteri Besar post was final.

He wanted all parties including PAS to accept the decision made by the Coalition Presidential Council on Aug 17 as final.

Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi on Friday withdrew as MB candidate after being nominated by PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat recently.
