Never judge a book by its cover they say.

So don't you ever wonder why so much thought is given into making the cover of a book interesting?
The answer is simple. Perception.

Excluding the known great classics, a book's quality simply cannot be judged by its cover. And there is no point in writing a great book if there are no people interested to pick it up in the first place, right?

But what if it turns out that the content does not live up to the cover?

When it comes to perception, whether the book is good or not is secondary. What’s important is the book is picked up and read in the first place.

This is a clear example of when perception becomes more important than reality.

There are many such examples in life too, that supports my argument.

For instance when you go for a job interview, how important is your appearance and how you project yourself, compared to your actual real-life work performance?

I could give you many other examples but that would be off-point.

I believe perception is definitely more important than reality and anyone who tells you otherwise, is misinformed or completely naive.

But then again, I may be wrong, and it turns out that reality is indeed more important.

After all, it depends on your perception.
