Child sexual offenders have been advised to register with the Child Sexual Offenders database upon completing their sentence.

Kuala Selangor Member of Parliament (BN), Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim said, they must be closely monitored and report to the district police every month.

It is aimed at monitoring their movements, said Irmohizam.

“Apart from that, they should not be allowed at a radius of 1,000 feet from school compounds, children’s playground and child care centres.

“They shouldn’t be allowed to work in any sectors involving children to avoid from repeating their offences,” said Irmohizam during the tabling of Child Sexual Crime against Children 2017 here today.

On March 24, the government passed the proposal for child sexual crime to address criminals against children in the country.

He also stressed that the new law must be comprehensive and inclusive as well as possess the capabilities to curb and punish sexual offenders.

“Although we have several laws protecting our children, I see this law as suitable in today’s environment.

“Looking at the provisions of the law, I am sure that it will be able to curb sexual crimes against children,” he explained.

Based on a statistic by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), a total of 184 sexual crimes were reported in 2015.

A total of 138 cases involved several applications including Wechat, Facebook, WhatsApp and Beetalk.

Between January and May 2016, 63 cases have been recorded.
