The salary increase for four key positions in the Selangor government will be reviewed during the state's first legislative assembly this November, according to Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.

The Malaysian Insider reported today that the positions involved are menteri besar, the executive council members, the speaker and the deputy speaker of the assembly.

The newly-appointed Menteri Besar and the state's exco reach the decision in a meeting on Wednesday. It was the first meeting chaired by Azmin and attended by 10 also newly-appointed exco members.

"We feel that the increase needs to be reviewed for its appropriateness and have decided to table it for review in the assembly," he said as quoted in The Malaysian Insider.

Last year, The Selangor State Legislative Assembly approved a salary hike for all 56 state assemblymen effective Jan 1 2014, with its Deputy Speaker getting the highest percentage of 373.3.

The Members of Administration and Members of the State Assembly (Remuneration) (Amended) Enactment 2013 also provided for a salary boost for the Selangor Menteri Besar, Speaker and State Executive Committee lineup.

The menteri besar's monthly salary would be increased from RM14,175.15 to RM29,250; state executive committee, from RM6,109.29 to RM20,250; speaker, from RM6,109.29 to RM22,500; deputy speaker, from RM3,327.50 to RM15,750 and state assemblymen from RM6,000 to RM11,250.

The last salary adjustment was made in 2011.

However, the stated decided to cut the salary increase following criticisms from various quarters.
