A Muslim preacher who had allegedly insulted the Hindu faith during a talk, did so in his personal capacity and has got nothing to do with PAS.

According to a report in The Malaysian Insider, PAS central committee member Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Ustaz Shahul Hamid Seeni Mohd made the remarks in a speech four years ago.

"We are also concerned that some quarters are trying to worsen the situation by increasing tension among the different races and faiths... I ask them to stop.

"Do not use this to incite hatred among the people. Islam is a peaceful religion," he was quoted as saying.

He also said all preachers are advised to follow guidelines and to not make any provocative statements that can insult other religions.

A video recording of Shahul insulting the Hindu religion was uploaded onto YouTube which angered the Hindu community in the country.

The MIC had demanded an apology from him, with party president Datuk Seri G Palanivel saying everybody respected each other's faith and that Shahul should not have criticised or insulted the Hindu faith and the Hindus.

After learning about the video going viral, Shahul posted an apology to Hindus and Malaysians on his Facebook page and released a video clip apologising for his remarks.
