National diver Pandelela Rinong is expected to take a break from competition after the FINA Grand Prix Diving championships next week to undergo rehab.

"I may have to undergo rehabilitation after the Grand Prix here because despite my injury I have been training and competing," she told reporters after attending a press conference to announce the FINA Grand Prix that will be hosted by Malaysia at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil from Oct 24-26.

The 21-year-old diver from Bau, Sarawak, suffered a knee injury while training in Guangzhou, China, a month before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

"I do not want to say that my below par performance was due to the injury because as athletes there will be times when there is a drop in performance. At times we cannot achieve the desired results," she said.

In the Commonwealth Games, Pandelela won a silver medal from the 10m individual platform and a bronze from the 10m platform synchronized partnering Nur Dhabitah Sabri.

In Incheon Asian Games she managed only a bronze medal from the 10m platform synchronized with partner Leong Mun Yee.

Meanwhile, 55 divers from 11 countries, including China, United States, Canada, Colombia and Australia are expected to take part in the FINA Grand Prix while Indonesia had decided to withdraw at the eleventh hour citing financial constrain
