The giant panda cub which was born 12 days ago at the National Zoo, has now revealed its black spots on its eyes, nose, ears and shoulder.

National Zoo deputy president Rosly@Rahmat Ahmat Lana said the spots on the 380-gramme cub’s body was the basic features that had formed on the panda body.

“We found out that the panda cub has started to develop its basic features from the appearance of the black spots on its body,” he told Bernama here, today.

Rosly said the cub is in healthy and active condition, even though it only drinks its mother’s milk.

He added both the cub and mother, Liang Liang will be quarantined for 60 days before it could be viewed by the public.

Although members of the public were only able see the male panda, Xing Xing at the exhibition area of the Giant Panda Conservation Centre, Rosli said the number of visitors, however, had not decreased.

Today, being a public holiday in conjunction with the National Day, Xing Xing had received over 1,000 visitors since 9am.

The pair of giant pandas were earlier known as Fu Wa and Feng Yi when they arrived in Malaysia on May 21, 2014 as a symbol of 40 years of diplomatic relations between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.

The yet-unnamed panda cub will only be in the country for two years before being sent back to China, according to the agreement.
