Police on Friday recorded a statement from Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar regarding her controversial meeting with Jacel H. Kiram, a daughter of a former terrorist chief who had intruded into Lahad Datu, Sabah in 2013.

The meeting had angered the people of Sabah as well as family members of those who were killed in the Lahad Datu incident to the extent that the Sabah State Assembly yesterday passed a motion to bar her and the MP for Batu, Tian Chua from entering the state.

The PKR vice-president was today present at the Bukit Aman Federal Police Headquarters with her lawyer, R. Sivarasa as well as several supporters at about 3.35pm to give her statement on the matter.

Speaking to reporters later, Nurul Izzah said she regretted the action by certain irresponsible groups who had spread the photograph of her meeting with Jacel Kiram on Nov 9 in the social media.

She said she had already explained the matter previously in the open program organised by the Asian Institute for Democracy, Office of the Vice-President of the Phillipines and the Office of the Mayor of Manila.

"I apologise and regret the matter," she said.

Meanwhile, the Bukit Aman Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (Investigation/Legal), Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh when contacted, confirmed that the department had recorded Nurul Izzah's statement.

"The case is being investigated under Section 124L of the Penal Code for attempted sabotage," he said.
