The PAS Ulama Council wants Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to continue as the Selangor Menteri Besar until the end of his term, saying there are no Syariah grounds to justify a change in the state government leadership.

Its acting chief, Datuk Ahmad Yakob, said the council had studied the matter and found there was no breach of trust, misappropriation or corruption committed by Abdul Khalid since his appointment as the Menteri Besar after the 13th General Election.

Likewise, upon his first appointment as the Menteri Besar in 2008 until the time he was able to secure the people's mandate and obtain a bigger win for Pakatan Rakyat in the 13th General Election, he said in a statement here on Saturday.

Ahmad, who is the Kelantan Menteri Besar, said any move to change the Selangor Menteri Besar without the joint approval of PAS, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP should be averted.

Yesterday, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang defended Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and wanted the latter to remain as Selangor Menteri Besar as he had never betrayed the trust given by the people.

PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced that the Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council had nominated PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace Abdul Khalid as the Menteri Besar.
