Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Higher Management today announced the postponement of all lectures in UiTM branches in Selangor on Monday, said vice-chancellor Tan Sri Profesor Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar.

According to Sahol in a statement Sunday, the announcement was made after the worsening of the Air Pollutant Index (API) on Sunday.

“Moving forward, the postponement of lectures sessions will only be determined a day prior to the announcement based on API monitoring from time to time.

“The postponement will only impact lectures’ schedules at the affected branches, but final examinations for several diploma papers remain unaffected," said the statement.

Sahol said, all UiTM employees are still required to report for duties.

Announcements for UiTM campuses in other States will only be determined by the respective UiTM rectors based on current IPU reading.

Sahol also advised all employees and students to take precautionary measures in light of the worsening haze. He said students should lessen outdoor activities, put on face masks and drink water.

The Department of Environment (DOE) today reported that Shah Alam recorded the highest API reading of 308.

UiTM Melaka rector, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Adnan Hashim today announced the postponement of lectures in UiTM Kampus Bandaraya Melaka, UiTM Alor Gajah and UiTM Jasin.

Meanwhile, readings more than 201 is classified as unhealthy and can worsen health condition while an API or more than 300 is considered as hazardous to public health and any outdoor activities must be avoided especially for those in the high risk group.
