Health Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam said there was no cause for the public to panic over the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as no case had been reported in the country.

He said the ministry would duly make a public announcement if there is a case.

"We don't have anything to hide and I hope the media would avoid using the term, 'suspected' ebola to avoid causing a panic among the people," he said in a statement here on Thursday.

Two days ago, the ministry confirmed that a Zimbabwean student aged 24, who was quarantined at the Kuching General Hospital in Sarawak, had tested negative for EVD.

Subramaniam also advised those who had planned to travel to Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, to postpone their trip.

"If they still have to make the journey, then they should refrain from visiting homes or facilities known to have EVD cases," he said.

He also advised those who have fever or feel unwell after visiting the countries concerned to seek treatment immediately.

Meanwhile, he said the government has implemented preventive measures particularly at entry points such as airports to monitor and examine visitors who had arrived from the affected countries.
