Neng Yatimah, a popular Malay actress in the 1940s and 1950s, is reported to be in critical condition at Khoo Teck Phuat Hospital in Singapore.

According to her grandson, Muhammad Rezainuddin Mustapha, the former actress of the Jalan Ampas Studio glory days was admitted into the hospital's Intensive Care Unit Wednesday.

"The doctors have informed that there are health complications and kidney failure due to her age, 91 years," he told Bernama, here, today.

Muhammad Rezainuddin, who is also the son of classic Malay film hero, Datuk Mustapha Maarof, said his grandmother complained of breathing difficulties while on her return trip to Singapore.

Neng Yatimah, whose real name is Yatimah Ahmad, had been here to attend the funeral of Mustapha who died due to lung complications on Monday.

Among the films she had acted in were 'Seri Mersing', 'Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup', 'Lela Satria', 'Air Mata Duyung', 'Laila Majnun' and 'Ibu'.
