The Northern Corridor Implementation Agency (NCIA) will promote the use of new technology to attract the young generation especially in the interior regions to take up farming to be implemented at the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).

Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on NCER Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum said the technology had already been adopted in Penang and could produce vegetables such as 'baby kailan' of high quality to the extent that they could be exported to Japan.

He said that in Kuala Nerang, Kedah green houses were also being used by vegetable farmers which enabled them to control the temperature required for the vegetables planted.

"In Perlis, we plan to use the technology to produce the 'harum manis' mango throughout the year without following the season as practiced now," he said at a media conference, here today.

The Kubang Pasu Member of Parliament said the pineapple cultivation project using high technology would be implemented on 283 hectares of idle land in Bukit Tangga, Changlun.
