The National Sports Day scheduled to be held on Oct 10 will be held in areas that record healthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the event will only be cancelled in areas where the API reading reach unhealthy levels.

However, he said the decision will be made by the organisers in each areas based on the National Sports Institute of Malaysia (ISN) guidelines.

“The reading in one area differs from the other. Like yesterday, it was very bad in the Klang Valley but clear in Sabah, So it is not accurate to say if the reading reaches 150, National Sports Day nationwide will be cancelled,” he said after officiating the FitUni programme at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Nilai today.

Yesterday, Khairy said the National Sports Day celebration will be cancelled if the API level reaches 150.

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 is moderate; 101 to 200 is unhealthy; 201 to 300 is very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous.
