Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should provide a convincing explanation or deny the allegations made against him, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“If Najib is confident that the allegations thrown against him is false, then he should take legal action to clear his name and to return the government’s credibility,” said the Deputy Prime Minister in a statement uploaded on his Facebook page, today.

Muhyiddin characterised the report by Wall Street Journal (WSJ) which claimed that Najib had received the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund as serious and capable of tarnishing the government’s credibility.

“The accusation is grave as it can affect Najib’s credibility and integrity as a Prime Minister and a government leader.

“This issue is grabbing the peoples’ attention apart from international media and this will definitely touch public interest,” said Muhyiddin.

Wall Street Journal and Sarawak Report on Friday had claimed that upon investigation over 1MDB, it was revealed that billions of ringgit had been channelled to several private accounts owned by Najib.

The report stated that the information was gained during the investigation held against 1MDB.

Muhyiddin also urged enforcements such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Royal Malaysian Police (RMN) to cooperate with the Attorney-General’s office to take immediate action in investigating the allegations made against Najib.

Muhyiddin also urged all quarters to remain calm while a thorough investigation is being held.

“I am confident that this matter will be investigated in a thorough and transparent manner for the sake of justice.

“I am sure that the truth will prevail,” said Muhyiddin.
