Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak did not wait long to implement the decision made at the recent Umno General Assembly 2014 to rejuvenate the party, by launching the online party membership registration system, here, today.

He said the launching of the system was in line with the desire to transform and rejuvenate Umno so that the party would be seen refreshed, dynamic, progressive and practising openness.

"Our wish is that when we talk about rejuvenating Umno, and the concept had already been explained at the General Assembly, it does not mean that we want to open our doors to the young generation only and to suddenly change the elders in the party.

"Instead, it is rejuvenation from all aspects and all the practices and approches used in the party must go through a rejuvenation process," he said when launching the online registration system at the Putra World Trade Centre.

He said this system would reduce bureaucracy, besides resolving difficulties and removing constraints in the registration of new members.

Najib, who is also the prime minister, said the implementation of the system was also aimed at getting more youths to join Umno.

"We are tired of hearing the same excuses of missing (membership
application) forms, ruined forms, forms not delivered and complaints of having
to fill up the form several times.
"We intend to open Umno to the young generation or what we term as Gen Y.
They are actually interested to join UMNO as members. Many have met up with
me and expressed their interest," he said.
Najib said the implementation of the online system was also in line with the
Umno's transformation to apply new technology in managing the party, in keeping
with the times.
He said through online registration, the applicants entered the required
information and when their applications had been processed, they would
automatically be registered as Umno members within a short time.
