Barisan Nasional (BN) is in the process of identifying talented individuals who are potential candidates for the 14th general election (GE14).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also BN chairman, said this was among the early preparations in facing GE14.

"We will prepare the candidates much earlier. We need at this early stage to identify talents first before we decide on the candidates.

"Secondly, we have not decided on the seat distribution yet," he told reporters after chairing the BN supreme council meeting at Menara Datuk Onn, here, tonight.

Meanwhile, he said, steps would be taken to ensure that cooperation between BN component parties was continually strengthened via joint programmes and mutual understanding among the ruling coalition's top leaders.

"If the top leaders have positive leadership, I believe the members will find it easy to follow," he said.

Najib said each component party must also look into its internal party issues and strengthen its machinery other than needing a high level of commitment to ensure BN remained in power.

"The meeting also agreed to make BN's success in several by-elections after GE13 as a template in making thorough preparations to face future challenges," he said.

On the Sarawak state election, he said BN would make appropriate preparations to face it.

Meanwhile, the prime minister said BN would boost briefings for the people on measures taken by the government under Budget 2015 aimed at strengthening the people's economy.

He said this included explaining to the people on the subsidy rationalisation, the Goods and Services Tax which would be implemented in April next year, and the concept of the people's economy he mooted which focused on boosting their economy, compared to the capitalist economy.

"This must be explained to the people so that the government's good intentions will be accepted positively," he added.
