A family trip home to celebrate AidilAdha reunion on Sunday ended in tragedy when a mother and her daughter were killed in an accident on KM256 north bound of the North-South Highway, after the Menora
Tunnel, near here Saturday morning.

Norhayati Wook, 50, and Siti Yuslianis Roslan, 20, a student of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) died at the scene from severe head injuries while three other siblings suffered minor injuries.

Muhammad Yusriman, 23, who was driving a Proton Saga BLM when met at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), could not stop muttering sadly "Saya minta maaf, Mak" (I'm sorry, Mom) as he felt awfully guilty over the incident.

He claimed that a trailer which had been hit by another trailer from behind crashed into the rear of the car he was driving.

"There was a loud sound, I think the trailer driver failed to brake. My siblings were screaming and glasses smashed," he told reporters here at HRPB.

He said members of the public helped them out of the car.

"Our family were on the way from Bukit Sentosa, Rawang to Lenggong as my mother and father are from there," he said.

He and his brother Muhammad Yusrizal, 25, suffered minor injuries while their younger sister Siti Yusliana, 12, suffered cuts on her heels.

Meanwhile, Kuala Kangsar OCPD ACP Ghuzlan Salleh said all victims in the Saga BLM car are family members of a police sub-inspector who is attached to the Bukit Beruntong Police Training Centre, Selangor.

However, he said the police personnel was not with his family when the incident occurred.

"The 11.30am incident occurred when a trailer believed to have lost control, crashed into the car with a family of five in it," he said when contacted here.

He said several other vehicles were involved in the accident after colliding with each other as everything happened so fast.

The Hino trailer laden with mosaic tiles was on its way to Penang from Johor Baharu.

All five vehicles, two Proton Alza, a Honda City, a Perodua Myvi and a Mercedes were badly damaged, but neither drivers nor passengers were hurt, he said.

He said the driver of the trailer who is in his 40s is being detained for further investigation.

The incident was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said.
