Mohamed Rafique Merican Mohd Wahiduddin Merican has been appointed as officer-in-charge of Maybank effective June 5, 2013 pending the appointment of the bank's new president and chief executive officer.

Rafique will oversee the overall running of the day-to-day operations of the Maybank group until the appointment of a president and CEO to succeed Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, the bank said in a statement today.

Abdul Wahid was made Minister in the Prime Ministers Department and his appointment would also become effective on the same day.

Rafique, who joined Maybank in June 2012, is currently Group Chief Financial Officer of Maybank.'
As a senior member of the Maybank Group Executive Committee, Rafique will ensure continuity in the entire operations of the group and report directly to the board.

Maybank's board of directors is currently undertaking the process of selecting the new President and CEO and thereafter will make the appropriate announcement upon obtaining Bank Negara Malaysia's approval.
