The controversial MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting today went on despite the protests against it but with a different twist to it.

This is because some of the disgruntled members who held a violent protest outside the MIC headquarters in Jalan Ipoh here included themselves in the meeting.

The group, led by former Youth Chief T. Mohan earlier defied security personnel to enter a room where party President Datuk Seri G.Palanivel was holding a meeting with his supporters.

Palanivel allowed about six of the members to sit in the meeting.

At a press conference later, Palanivel said a joint committee will be formed next week to address the party’s concerns.

However, he did mention the people who will be in the committee.

“Following the formation of the committee, Datuk Subramaniam and I will be meeting the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to discuss the next course of action. I will also meet with Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss this,” he said.

Nevertheless, Palanive refused to reveal details of the meeting as he said it is private and confidential.

Palanivel is, however tight-lipped when asked about certain quarters’ call for him to step down.

“That is nothing. It’s just a small group,” he said.

Meanwhile, at a separate press conference, Mohan said the protest who not have happened if only the current leadership have heard them out and not hold the meeting.

“Until we meet with RoS, there is no CWC,” he said.

The entire protest episode was peppered with an endless series of scuffles as well as name-calling.

At one point, one of the door hinges at the meeting room gave way to the violent way people were pushed around.

The protestors dispersed at approximately 5.30pm.
