The private jet belonging to Lord of the Rings film director, Peter Jackson is also used in the search operation for the missing MH370 flight, an international news portal reported.

Jackson’s Gulfstream G650 is also used for communication purposes where it is used to send messages between the aircrafts involved in the search.

According to the Gulfstream website, the jet has high speed capacity and able to fly far distances, enabling Jackson to make non-stop journey from Wellington, New Zealand to Los Angeles, California where most of his movies are shot.

“G650 can carry eight passengers and four crew members for a non-stop journey of 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km),” the web stated.

Jackson had bought the jet for USD69 million (RM225.63 million) last year.

The private jet which can reach 708 miles an hour (1139.42 km an hour) is used in rotation with other private jets sent for the operation.

Jackson’s spokesman Matt Dravitzki who confirmed the participation of the private jet which was bought on March last year however refused to comment if Jackson had volunteered for his jet to be used or it was requested by some.

“Peter does not want to seek publicity in this matter. There are other private jets and military aircrafts involved in the search,” Dravitzki was quoted.

“It’s kind of disappointing that because one is owned by a celebrity it becomes a matter of news when there are over 200 people missing,” he added.

MH370 which was carrying 239 people went missing while on its way to Beijing on March 8.
