Stern action should be taken against those spreading speculations, false information and slanders on national leaders regarding the MH370 incident, the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly was told
today.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) State Assemblyman for Kota Putera, Mohd Mahdi Musa said such matters involved public interest and had led to disunity when disseminated widely in the media, especially the social media.

"Such slanders were becoming more serious when they affected ties between Malaysia and other countries...and if no stern action is taken, it will threaten national security as well as the safety of Malaysians abroad," he said.

He said this when tabling a motion to adjourn the sitting under Clause 30 of the Standing Order of the State Legislative Assembly to enable the house to dfiscuss issues on the dissemination of false information and slanders against the country pertaining to the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370.

He said that preventive measures must be taken immediately before public anger against national leaders would lead to disunity among the people.

He said such action was contrary to the principles of Rukun Negara which had been the basis of the national ideology and philosophy in nurturing loyalty and love for the nation as well as the survival of national consensus and solidarity.
