Barisan Nasional candidate Mat Razi Mat Ail, 48, who won the Pengkalan Kubor state by-election last Sept 25, was today sworn in as a state assemblyman.

The swearing-in ceremony was held before Speaker Datuk Abdullah Ya'kub before the state legislative assembly convened in Kota Darul Naim.

Mat Razi's victory retained the status quo of BN, which held 12 state seats at present while PAS has 32 seats and PKR one seat.

In the by-election, Mat Razi won with a 2,635 vote-majority after defeating PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, 56, and an Independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 47, in a three-cornered fight.

The by-election was held following the death of its BN incumbent Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar last Aug 20.
