Homegrown fast food chain Marrybrown Malaysia is expanding to Brunei next year, said Franchise Division Manager Danny Tan.

The chain is already operating in 16 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Maldives, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, India, Qatar and Bahrain.

"We are confident of the Brunei market and target to open six to 10 outlets there.

"Marrybrown gives priority to halal aspects, the response in Malaysia and other Muslim countries has been very encouraging, especially in Dubai," he told reporters when met at a programme with Marrybrown brand ambassador, the singer Gadaffi Ismail Sabri or Dafi, at the Marrybrown outlet here Saturday.

Tan said since its establishment in Johor in 1981, the chain has expanded to 150 outlets nationwide, with five more to be opened by year-end -- in Limbang, Sarawak; Dungun, Terengganu; Mydin Mall, Negeri Sembilan; Market Hall Pudu Central, Kuala Lumpur; and Kulai Jaya, Johor.

For its 32nd anniversary, customers who spend a minimum of RM20 may enter the Sun Sea Sand contest from Nov 25 to Jan 19, 2014 that offers RM200,000 in prizes, he said.

Tan said the company is hoping its newly introduced V Burger, with its crunchy deep fried 'begedil' potato patty, would be as popular as its fried chicken and rice offerings.
