Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has set its vision to be the global leader in creating airport cities, said Chairman Tan Sri Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah.

He said MAHB has developed its business strategies accordingly, focusing on providing experiences to delight its guests, building successful partnerships, providing total transport and digital connectivity, diversifying its non-aeronautical base businesses and sustaining the community and environment.

To date, several key projects have taken place in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aeropolis, he said in his speech at the Airport Cities Conference and Exhibition 2014 Gala Dinner here.

One of the projects is the Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA, a joint venture project between MAHB and Mitsui Fudosan, one of Japan’s biggest outlet park and commercial developers.

The Mitsui Outlet Park project is slated to be Southeast Asia’s largest outlet park of its kind, he said, adding that the project is an integral part of the ongoing KLIA Aeropolis development, which provides a good opportunity to further expand MAHB's non-aeronautical revenue base.

"The project is also in line with the Malaysian government's effort in transforming KLIA into a retail hub under the Economic Transformation Programme.

"With a gross development cost at RM335 million, it is estimated to generate a gross national income of RM221 million and create 2,577 jobs by 2020, which will further solidify Malaysia and KLIA's position in retail tourism as a destination map," he added.

At present, KLIA has a total landbank of 100 sq kilometres in the airport vicinity and out of this, 2,727 hectares are available for commercial development.
