Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has found a new method of maintenance, using grouting injection to replace the installation of precast slab for taxiways and parking apron, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) in Sepang.

MAHB, in a statement on Friday, said the grouting was piloted at the affected locations last month as part of its continuous improvement effort.

"This new method will not involve open excavation works and therefore, will result in less disruption to airport operations," it added.

MAHB said 54 locations needed long-term solutions to address soil settlement issues in klia2, particularly on taxiways (12 locations) and parking apron (42 bays).

"As at Oct 31, 35 locations have been installed with precast slab, while moving forward the remaining 19 locations will be maintained with grouting injection method," it added.

However, it said the work schedule remained unchanged and works for remaining locations would be complete in April next year as reported.

He said the pavement overlay works involved 19 per cent of the total 1.48 million sqm klia2 airport area and until Oct 31, 84 per cent of the job had been completed.

"The percentage of the area to be maintained with pavement overlay works will reduce over time from 19 per cent in 2015, tapering to a minimum of five per cent by 2019.

MAHB said it values strong engagement with all stakeholders through the Joint Inspection Committee which meets regularly and conducts weekly inspection with all relevant parties, including airlines.
