Laos Prime Minister Dr Thongloun Sisoulith today departed for home after concluding a two-day official visit to Malaysia.

He was seen off at the Bunga Raya Complex of the KL International Airport (KLIA) by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong, who was the Minister-in-Attendance.

During the visit, the Laotian Prime Minister had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V at the Istana Negara.

Earlier, Dr Thongloun also had an eye-to-eye meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Prime Minister's office, followed by a delegation meeting immediately after he was accorded a welcoming ceremony.

Dr Thongloun''s visit was also marked by the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) in establishing a joint committee on science, technology and innovation (STI) cooperation to determine priority areas, plan, coordinate and monitor bilateral cooperation in science and technology, as well as consider proposed cooperation.

The Laotian Prime Minister also gave his opening remark at the Malaysia-Lao PDR Business Forum at the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

The visit, at the invitation of Najib, was the first to be made after Dr Thongloun assumed office in April 2016. - BERNAMA
